New Playground, Volleyball Courts Coming Soon to Gulfport Beach

The City's public beach will undergo a minor facelift with new playground equipment and revamped volleyball courts.

At Tuesday night’s City Council meeting, the resolution to purchase new playground equipment was approved with a unanimous vote. The nautical themed equipment and play surface will cost the city just under $120,000. Funding for the waterfront upgrades will come from the Capitol Improvement Program budget through the use of Pennies for Pinellas funds.

With the improvements, the new playground will be closer to the (east end of the beach), which will allow for a larger play area. In conjunction with the equipment’s new location, the beach volleyball courts (west end of the beach) may be expanded as well.

According to council member Jennifer Salmon, the new additions will improve the overall look of the waterfront. With more “professional” looking volleyball courts and an immense amount of “natural shade,” there are many positives to the new equipment.

With a unanimous vote of approval, the makeover is ready for takeoff.
