Gulfport Fresh Market Cancelled Tuesday

Mother Nature is forcing organizers to cancel today's regular Fresh Market in downtown Gulfport. That and much more in "5 Things to Know Today" Tuesday, July 17.

No Market: Organizers with the Gulfport Fresh Market informed market goers of the cancellation on their Facebook page. (Keep in mind, a few vendors may set up anyways.)

The message reads:

"The Fresh Market has been cancelled today, July 17th as a result of the severe storms passing through the area. When lightning is present, it is not safe for vendors or customers and more storms are predicted throughout the day. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you but we can't change Mother Nature!!"

Millage Rate: Another item up for a vote is a cap of the millage rate for ad valorem tax revenue for FY 2013 at 4.039 mills. The current millage rate is 4.0. The council is not voting to increase the millage rate, just creating a limit prior to final decisions about the budget for FY 2013. However, the increase from 4.0 to 4.039 mills would bring in the same revenue next year: 2,441,131 in property taxes. View the entire agenda on the City's website.

Tuesday Forecast: We have a 50 percent chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms. Otherwise, it'll be partly sunny with a high near 88. Tonight, a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, otherwise partly cloudy with a low around 80.
