Gulfport Officer Involved in Accident

Gulfport Police Officer Jon Davis was responding to a call when his car collided with a black Hyundai.

A Gulfport police officer responding to call Monday morning crashed his vehicle into a Hyundai and injured the driver.

Gulfport Officer Jon Davis was heading south on 49th St. S. at 11:45 a.m., when his patrol car hit a black Hyundai at the intersection of Gulfport Blvd.

The female driver was heading east on Gulfport Boulevard South when the accident occurred. Det. Sgt. Robert Burkhart said that Officer Davis had his emergency response lights on at the time of the accident.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officer Davis was treated on scene by the Gulfport Fire Department. Davis submitted a drug test, which is required per policy of the Gulfport Police Department, according to Det. Sgt. Robert Burkhart.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash.

Officials say the investigating officer will be able to access video and photos taken by the red light cameras at that intersection.
