5 Things to Know in Gulfport: 'Shade' Meeting, Council Meeting, Fresh Market

The Gulfport City Council will meet for a "shade" meeting today regarding the lawsuit filed by Attorney Andy Strickland. That and more in "5 Things to Know Today."

"Shade" Meeting: The Gulfport City Council will meet with City Manager Jim O'Reilly and City Attorney Andrew Salzman at 4:30 today at Gulfport City Hall for a "Shade" Meeting. The meeting is not public. According to the agenda, officials are going to discuss the lawsuit filed by St. Petersburg Attorney Andy Strickland. Strickland was ticketed for smoking a cigar on the beach in April. Strickland told Patch in April that he wanted to challenge the ban in court.

Regular City Council Meeting: Irving Zeider will receive the Spirit of Gulfport Award at tonight's Regular City Council meeting at 7 p.m. at Gulfport City Hall. There will also be presentations about Educate Today and the Area Agency on Aging of Pinellas and Pasco. For more information about the agenda, check out the City of Gulfport's website.

Spin Yarn: Check out our video "Teen Spins Yarn at Gulfport Fresh Market" and then sign up for a spinning class at the Gulfport Fresh Market with Billie and Brennan. Billie Rodriguez and her daughter Brennan, with Funny Face Farms, will teach students during 4-hour courses, each consisting of two-hour classes conducted on two consecutive Tuesdays. Registration for classes will start immediately. The first two-hour class is scheduled for Tuesday, July 10th, followed by a second two-hour class on Tuesday, July 17th. The cost for classes will be $15 per hour, or $60 for the entire four-hour course. Expect an east wind between 10 and 16 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Tonight, it'll be mostly clear with a low around 77 and an east wind between 18 and 22 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph.
