Resident Rescued From Burning House

Jody Lee Hutchins, 54, was found unconscious in her home Thursday afternoon. Officials say a fire started in her living room, and thick smoke filled the home.

Update 11:00 AM: Gulfport Fire Chief James Marenkovic says Jody Lee Hutchings is in critical but stable condition at the Palms of Pasadena Hospital. Marenkovic believes the fire was set intentionally in the living room.

Earlier

Gulfport Police Officer Jennifer Crowson responded to a welfare check at 907 Hull St. S. Thursday, at about 12:30 p.m. Crowson saw smoke coming out of the home. The officer called for help.

Gulfport firefighters entered the house, where they found Jody Lee Hutchins unconscious in the bedroom.

Firefighters performed life saving techniques before she was transported to Palms of Pasadena Hospital with life threatening injuries.

A State Fire Marshal investigator responded to the scene. At this time it is
still undetermined how the fire started. The fire is still under investigation.  

Hutchins is currently in stable condition at Palms of Pasadena Hospital.
