Monty the Maltese Encourages Kids to Read

Every Saturday, kids of all ages are invited to spend time reading to Monty at the Gulfport Public Library.

Lisa Singer and her pup, Monty, are new to the Gulfport area. To make themselves at home, Lisa has brought a tradition from up north down to the Sunshine State.

Kids of all ages are encouraged to come spend some time with Monty and "Paws to read." They can pick out their favorite book, then read it to the friendly pooch. This approach makes reading aloud less intimidating and boosts the children’s confidence.

Rather than being put in the limelight in front of a teacher or peer, the child can relax and enjoy some time with a furry friend.

Monty is also quite the showman. He does an array of tricks that kids really seem to like.
