Officials Look Into Street Fire Near Peninsula Inn

Gulfport Fire Chief James Marenkovic says a call came in around 7:20 p.m. Tuesday night about a small fire on the curb near the Peninsula Inn & Spa on 30th Ave S.

Marenkovic says although there have been several palm tree and brush fires reported in Gulfport in 2007, 2008, 2010 , and 2011 that remain unsolved, this curb fire does not appear related.

The time, location and fire itself does not fit the description.

Marenkovic says the owner of the Peninsula Inn & Spa helped put out the first first by using a bucket of water. After that, firefighters did arrive on scene.

There was no major damage to the pine tree, he said.
