Video: We Shot the 'Bad Guys!'

The Gulfport Police Department has graciously invited citizens to learn more about the department's operations, policies, procedures and more! The Citizens Police Academy is an 8-week course with class time, demonstrations and a ride along. During my first week, I wrote about learning what it takes to apply to become an officer for Gulfport. During the second week we learned about three topics: GPD Records and Crime Analysis, Communications and K9 Operations. During week five, we learned about community policing and how people can get involved in resolving problems before they escalate. We also received CPR training from the Gulfport Fire Department. Check out that video here.

This week was by far the most exciting class! Lt. Josh Stone explained and demonstrated how to load and shoot the Sig Sauer P229 handgun. We also learned about deadly force, how deadly force is defined and the different levels of responding to resistance.
