Voters Choose Dan Liedtke and Jennifer Salmon for Gulfport City Council

The unofficial results show Dan Liedtke and Jennifer Salmon as the council members for Ward 1 and Ward 3 with Liedtke's race winning by only nine votes.

Update Wednesday 8:48 a.m.: After this story was published Tuesday night Liedtke received two provisional votes changing the lead from seven to nine, according to City Clerk Lesley DeMuth. According to the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections Office unofficial results, Liedtke received 938 votes, Hastings received 929.

According to the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections Office unofficial results, Dan Liedtke won Ward 1 with 936 votes, only seven more than Incumbent David Hastings. Hastings received 929 votes.

Liedtke told Gulfport Patch that he's excited and ready to hit the ground running. "We're just so happy, we only needed to win by one, we'll take a win by seven. We're very happy, very thankful."

Hastings thanked his supporters at a gathering at Habana Cafe and told Gulfport Patch he is disappointed by the loss but added, "I spent a lot of time with the city," and said that time can now be spent with his friends and family.

Councilmember Barbara Banno told Gulfport Patch that according to the City Clerk there will be a mandatory recount for Ward 1 on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections Office at 13001 Starkey Road in Largo. Banno says the recount will be open to the public.

In Ward 3, Incumbent Jennifer Salmon received 1,084 votes while James Perry received 693.

Perry congratulates Jennifer Salmon in her win and added that "She did a good race. No mud slinging, which is great."

"I'd like to thank everybody that supported me and everybody that helped me, I really had a lot of support," Perry added.
