2 Men With BB Guns Mistaken For Possible School Shooters
2 men wearing black clothing and carrying BB guns less than a mile from a Polk County school were mistaken for possible school shooters.

DAVENPORT, FL — Two Florida men wearing black clothing and carrying BB gun rifles less than a mile from a Polk County school were mistaken for possible school shooters Thursday and confronted by sheriff's deputies.
"Deputies responded and determined that there was no threat to students or staff at the Davenport School of the Arts," explained Brian Bruchey of the Polk County Sheriff's Office..

"The 9-1-1 caller described two young men in black clothing near the school possessing 'rifles or assault weapons,'" said Bruchey. "Deputies located two men who matched the description given by the caller, and she was able to positively identify them."
The Davenport School of the Arts is located at 4751 County Road 547 in Davenport.

"Thankfully, this was not an active assailant situation," added Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd. "We became aware of two suspicious people, and out of an abundance of caution, we responded swiftly and we were able to determine there was no legitimate threat."
Judd thanked his deputies for their quick response along with Polk County Public Schools, Winter Haven Police Department, Haines City Police Department, Davenport Police Department, Lake Wales Police Department, Osceola County Sheriff's Office and Florida Highway Patrol.
