64-Year-Old Victim Identified In Lakeland Plane Crash

The victim of Saturday's plane crash in Lakeland was identified as a 64-year-old student pilot.

LAKELAND, FL — The victim of Saturday's plane crash in Lakeland was identified as a 64-year-old Plant City student pilot. The crash of the 2014 BRM Aero Bristell Light-Sport Plane occurred at 10:12 a.m.

Gary Alan Mansell was killed while practicing touch-and-go landings at Lakeland Linder International Airport, according to Lakeland police.

"Mansell was on his third touch-and-go when his plane took a hard left and crashed into the ground bursting into flames," Lakeland police explained. "The Lakeland Fire Department Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting vehicle responded within minutes and extinguished the fire. Mansell was deceased at the scene."

The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause of the crash.
