Arrest Made in Lakeland Shooting Death

A 25-year-old man turned himself in following a Lakeland shooting that left one woman dead and another injured.

LAKELAND, FL — A 25-year-old man faces criminal charges after Lakeland Police say he fired shots at two women outside a Lakeland gas station early Saturday morning. One woman died following the shooting and the was injured.

Police identified Derrick Deon Robinson as their suspect in the case Saturday afternoon after interviewing witnesses to the Oct. 15 shooting. Those witnesses told police there had been a fight outside the Rumors Night Club early Saturday morning. Club security broke up the fight and the two groups of people left, an email from the police department said.

One of two groups of people, the agency said, went to hang out at 1615 W. Memorial Blvd., a Chevron gas station.

“Three members of the opposing group arrived at 1615 West Memorial Boulevard with the defendant, Derrick Deon Robinson being one of them,” the email said. Robinson, a witness told police, was armed with a handgun.

“The witness stated that Robinson pointed a handgun at the group and began firing multiple round at the group, hitting Andrea Dixon and Johnetha Ragins, who were standing and socializing with the members of the opposing group," the email said.

Dixon, 39, was found at the scene by police. She was suffering from gunshot wounds and was taken to Lakeland Regional Health for treatment. Dixon, however, was pronounced dead at 3:05 a.m.

Ragins, 34, was brought to Lakeland Regional’s emergency room before police arrived at the Chevron station. She had gunshot wounds to her hip and forearm, police said.

A search for Robinson kicked off Saturday afternoon. He turned himself into the police department around 6 p.m. Robinson was charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
