Car Kills Woman Walking On U.S. Highway 98: Lakeland Police
A Lakeland woman was killed Saturday night after she walked in front of a car shortly after the traffic light facing the car turned green.

LAKELAND, FL — A 48-year-old Lakeland woman was hit and killed by a car Saturday night on U.S. Highway 98 North, Lakeland police said.
The victim, Blanca Amaya, was crossing the southbound lanes of Highway 98 at 10:35 p.m., according to investigators. At the same time, a Chevrolet Malibu traveled southbound on Highway 98 near the Interstate-4 overpass. The driver slowed down for the red traffic light he saw ahead of him, and before he came to a complete stop, the light turned green. He accelerated and hit Amaya, police said. The driver stayed at the crash location.
The victim was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead by medical staff.
