Florida Man Kills Wife Of 28 Years In Murder Suicide

A Polk County man apparently shot and killed his wife of 28 years before turning the gun on himself days before Christmas.

LAKEWOOD, FL — An 82-year-old Florida man who told a relative he was concerned about his spouse's deteriorating health and his inability to care for her, apparently shot and killed his wife of 28 years before turning the gun on himself days before Christmas, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's deputies said Wednesday they found the bodies of Henry Stanecki and 79-year-old Nancy Stanecki on Saturday night in the 1500 block of Highway 559 in Polk City.

"Detectives learned that Mr. Stanecki had called a brother in Cincinnati, Ohio at 9:54 p.m. Saturday and told him, 'I just shot Nancy,'" explained a spokesperson for the Polk County Sheriff's Office. "That brother said that in a previous call Henry Stanecki was worried about his wife Nancy's bad health and frequent falls, and that he wasn't able to help her anymore due to his own deteriorating health."
