Legoland Florida Reopens Friday After Bomb Threat Scare

Legoland Florida was evacuated following a Thursday morning bomb threat, but will resume normal operations Friday.

WINTER HAVEN, FL — Guests at Legoland Florida were evacuated following a bomb threat made at the theme park's property late Thursday morning.

According to the Winter Haven Police Department, its officers and Legoland Florida security are investigating the Oct. 13 threat. Authorities were made of aware of the threat at 11:54 a.m.

The theme park and hotel were both evacuated “for the safety and security of guests and employees, which remains the No. 1 priority,” an email from the police department said.

Winter Haven Police reported the evacuation was completed just before 1 p.m. The Polk County Sheriff's Office and State Fire Marshall's Office have also joined the search of the property.

No injuries to guests or the property were reported.

Legoland kept its doors closed for the rest of Thursday so authorities could continue their investigation. The theme park's general manager, Adrian Jones, told media he believes the threat was a hoax, but the resort takes all threats seriously.

Police confirmed late Thursday afternoon that no bomb was found in the park.

"Making a false report of an explosive device is absolutely not a joke and law enforcement will continue to investigate the origin of the threat and charge the person(s) responsible to the fullest extent," the police department wrote in an email to media.

The park was scheduled to resume normal operations Friday, Oct. 14, the Winter Haven Police announced. The hotel, however, reopened to guests on Thursday.

Legoland Florida is a theme park designed just for families with kids ages 2 to 12. The park spans more than 150 acres and has more than 50 rides, shows and attractions, according to its website. Legoland Hotel is located next to the park.
