A 65-year-old man was charged with domestic battery after he allegedly threatened his wife with a knife and choked her.

KISSIMMEE, FL — A 65-year-old man described as a retired law enforcement officer from New York, was charged with domestic battery earlier this week after he allegedly threatened his wife with a knife, choked her and slammed her into a wall. Jay Gorberg of Kissimmee was also charged with aggravated assault, false imprisonment and resisting arrest in connection with Sunday's incident.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office said a neighbor called police when Gorberg's 65-year-old wife was seen running into the street screaming for help.

"Around 9:30 a.m. that morning, Gorberg's wife ran out of their shared residence screaming for help and shouting, 'He is trying to kill me,' according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
Gorberg allegedly attempted to place handcuffs on his wife and wrap a rope around her neck, but she was able to run outside.
"He refused to exit the home for an hour-and-a-half after deputies arrived on scene," said the Polk County Sheriff's Office. "Once he surrendered to deputies, he was placed under arrest."
Gorberg surrendered his weapons and ammunition to a family member who does not live with the couple.
