Highland Rec Grand Opening Is June 2nd
While construction on Phase 2 of the project will be completed in early May, the city still needs time to get the facility ready for the public.
Construction on the state-of-the-art Highland Recreation Complex is going according to schedule, with crews expected to wrap up construction on Phase 2 of the project sometime next week.
According to Largo Parks Superintendent Greg Brown, the company in charge of the build, Creative Contractors of Clearwater, have fulfilled their part of the project.
But the city needs to fine tune everything in the $17 million facility before opening it to the public.

"Back when it started we were only talking about a completion date," Brown told Patch via email. "Creative Contractors stayed on time and did a great job for us."
"The grand opening date was set only a few months ago," he added. "We have to move in, run through the systems and hold some trainings in the building before we can open it."

Once Phase 2 of the project is completed, work will begin on Phase 3.
That aspect involves demolition of the old building, adding outdoor restrooms, tennis courts, a grass multipurpose field, a small playground addition, a fitness zone and some additional parking, according to Brown.
Brown estimates Phase 3 will take roughly three months to complete.
