Is Dining Going to the Dogs in Largo? Grrr. Readers React

Doggy dining is approved in Largo, but some residents are still growling about it.

The Largo City Commission may have approved outdoor restaurant dining for leashed dogs with their pet owners. But some readers are still howling about it.

"Please list the restaurants I will NOT visit," wrote Nancy about the plan to let restaurants that register and pay a fee allow dogs to dine outdoors with their owners.

Largo may be joining other Florida communities – including St. Petersburg, Safety Harbor and Dunedin – that welcome diners and their dogs. But the idea still makes some folks growl.

Wrote dschaaf66: "Dogs do NOT belong in restaurants! I do not want fleas or dog hair in my soup, on my sandwich or the added flavor on my steak!!"

But other commenters said they look forward to the chance to take their canine to lunch. Lisa said, "I will be happy to support any dog friends businesses."

Dwayne added: "As a dog owner of a well behaved dog without fleas I applaud this measure. Regulations will only permit dogs outdoors. I'd much rather be outdoors with my dog, then be outside with a smoker. Additionally, I will pay the $75 permit fee for the first restaurant to respond to my post."
