Thank You, Largo Fire Rescue
A witness to a crash on Belcher Road offers her thanks and gratitude to the first responders.
Here is a letter posted to Facebook from Cheryl Wonderly about the response by Largo Fire Rescue to a serious accident on Belcher Road.
Wonderly, a bystander when the crash occurred, took a few moments to commend the work, courage and compassion of the first responders to this Largo crash. She wrote a letter on the Facebook Page of Largo Fire Rescue. The first responders tended to both the accident victim and a pet dog that was in the vehicle, showing professionalism and care, she notes.Â
(Thanks to Largo Fire Rescue for agreeing to share the following letter and photos with Patch readers. Cheryl Wonderly's letter is below.)
I wanted to take a moment to compliment the Largo Fire Department in their handling of the horrible accident on Belcher Road last night. The crash was heard several blocks away as were the screams of the trapped woman inside the black car.
As a bystander, I witnessed the care and comfort given to the woman before, during, and after the extraction from the vehicle. I watched a firefighter gently carry a dog from the black car. A few moments later, I saw two firefighters lend medical care to the dog. One administered oxygen and another gently petted the poor dog.
I don’t think the dog survived but the lady should know her dog was lovingly cared for. I was deeply touched by the care given to this poor dog. We in Largo have grown to expect the best of our EMS and Firemen.
I worked as a volunteer at the Florida Railroad Museum in Manatee County and twice we had serious medical emergencies. The level of professionalism and knowledge that we here in Pinellas County enjoy is above and beyond what I have seen there and elsewhere.
We are truly grateful to our first responders in Largo and Pinellas County.
   Thank you, Cheryl Wonderly
