Unborn Baby Killed, Mom Critical After Ulmerton Road Crash

A Wednesday evening crash on Ulmerton Road left two people in critical condition, including a pregnant woman whose baby died.

LARGO, FL — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a Wednesday night crash that left two people in critical condition and claimed the life of an unborn child.

According to the agency, Anthony Christian Forte, 23, of Indian Rocks Beach was heading west on Ulmerton Road around 9:47 p.m. Aug. 16 in a Toyota Scion. Troopers say Forte was driving “at a high rate of speed” as he neared the intersection with 121st Street North.

As that time, Mark Williams, 60, of largo was heading south on 121st Street North in a Jeep. Troopers say Williams stopped for a posted sign and then entered the intersection and the oncoming Scion’s path. The two vehicles collided.

Williams suffered critical injuries in the crash. Kerriann Hypatia Elders, 19, of Largo also suffered critical injuries. She was a passenger in Forte’s vehicle. Troopers say she was six months pregnant. The baby did not survive, a highway patrol report said.

Forte and one of his passengers, David James Parkhurst, 21, suffered minor injuries.

According to FHP records, there have been 42 crashes at that intersection between Jan. 1, 2011, and Aug. 16, 2017. Twenty-one of those crashes involved injuries, including six that were considered incapacitating. One fatality has been reported between 2011 and 2017.

Charges in Wednesday night’s crash are pending the outcome of the patrol’s investigation.
