Highway Construction In Wesley Chapel To Cause Traffic Closures

WESLEY CHAPEL, FL — Drivers can expect some traffic delays on Interstate 75 through Pasco County starting Sunday.

Traffic will be directed off and back onto northbound I-75 at Overpass Road Jan. 17 through 22.

Northbound I-75 traffic will be reduced to a single lane approaching Overpass Road, directed onto the exit ramp, and directed back onto I-75 using the entrance ramp between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday through Saturday nights.

There will also be lane closures on southbound I-75 in the Overpass Road area during the same nights and hours.

Overpass Road is about halfway between State Road 54 (Exit 279) and State Road 52 (Exit 285).

Speed limits will be reduced within the work area. Drivers are advised to plan at least 10 extra minutes into their plans to travel through the project area

Crews will be setting bridge beams over the interstate as part of the project to create a new interchange. While the ramps will be used to detour traffic, the interchange will not be open to traffic.

Additionally, a temporary, extra lane on eastbound State Road 56 in the I-75 area will be closed beginning Sunday night, Jan. 16.

Drivers can expect some increased congestion, particularly during peak commuting hours, from Grand Cypress Drive to I-75.

The temporary lane on eastbound SR 56 was added just before Thanksgiving as part of several actions to help with traffic flow during the busy holiday season. This extra lane must now be closed to continue permanent construction activities needed to allow the diverging diamond traffic pattern to become operational this spring.
