Prospect Road To Close For SR 52 Widening, Realignment Project

ST. LEO, FL — Prospect Road (County Road 579A) will be closed to all traffic at the intersection of Clinton Avenue and to thru-traffic from Handcart Road to State Road 52 from 10:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10 up to 6 a.m. Monday, Dec. 13.

Crews will be making a temporary connection of Clinton Avenue to the newly constructed portion of Prospect Road as part of the SR 52 realignment project, an $81.5 million project.

This project will widen and realign SR 52 from Uradco Place to Fort King Road in eastern Pasco County.

• Between Uradco Place and Bayou Branch Canal the existing road will be widened to a four-lane divided roadway.
• East of Bayou Branch Canal, the new alignment of four-lane divided SR 52 will be built south of the existing SR 52 tying into Clinton Avenue.
• Clinton Avenue between CR 579 and Fort King Road will be widened to a four-lane divided road.

Clinton Avenue between Pasadena Avenue and US 301 will become part of the new SR 52.

The section of existing SR 52 between Bayou Branch Canal and US 301 will be designated CR 52 after the construction of the new SR 52 is completed.

Construction is expected to finish in the summer of 2024.

For the upcoming road closures, Prospect Road drivers should use Curley Road or Fort King Road/Morningside Drive as the north-south detours around the closed portion of Prospect Road and SR 52 for east/west in between Curley Road and Morningside Drive.

Clinton Avenue drivers should use Fort King Road, Morningside Drive and SR 52 to get around the closed portion of Clinton Avenue between Fort King Road and Prospect Road.

Handcart Road drivers should use Curley Road and SR 52 to get around the closed portion of Prospect Road between SR 52 and Handcart Road.
