2 Kayakers Rescued Near Virginia Key

Two kayakers had to be rescued Wednesday when they couldn't make it back to shore

MIAMI BEACH, FL β€” Two kayakers had to be rescued Wednesday when they couldn't make it back to shore. Miami-Dade first responders received a distress call around 3:30 p.m. saying that the kayakers were being swept out to sea. Rescuers said the call came in via 9-1-1.

A spokesperson for Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said that the search was conducted by Miami-Dade Fire Boat 73 and an Air Rescue helicopter. The kayakers were located near Virginia Key.

"Just 10 minutes after receiving the 9-1-1 call, Fire Boat 73 was able to locate the victims," the spokesperson said.

The kayakers were not injured. They were brought back to shore on Fire Boat 73, according to the spokesperson.
