Miami Beach Tourist Killed In Weekend Hit-And-Run Crash

A Miami Beach tourist died Monday after being struck by a hit-and-run driver over the long holiday weekend.

MIAMI BEACH, FL β€” A Miami Beach tourist died Monday after being struck by a hit-and-run driver over the long holiday weekend, according to police. The tourist was identified as 38-year-0ld Steven Beech of California. The incident happened early Saturday morning at 20 Street and Liberty Avenue.

"We were called to the area at 4:04 a.m. after receiving a 9-1-1 call," explained Ernesto Rodriguez of the Miami Beach Police Department.

Beech was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center by Miami Beach Fire Rescue. He died Monday night.

Rodriguez said police believe the driver may have been in a blue Hyundai that drove off in an unknown direction.

"Detectives have made significant progress on their investigation," Rodriguez said Tuesday. "We will continue to pursue those responsible aggressively."
