5 Dead, 7 Hurt In FL Turnpike Crash

A van overturned into a ditch, leading to a crash that killed five people and injured seven others, authorities said.

OSCEOLA COUNTY, FL — Five people were killed, and seven people were injured, after a van overturned Sunday on the Florida Turnpike, according to the Florida Highway Patrol

The deadly crash happened around 7:45 p.m. near Kenansville, according to a FHP report.

A malfunctioned tire may have led to the 2004 E-350 van overturning, the FHP said. The van's driver lost control, and the van overturned several times before running off of the road to the right, the FHP said.

The van ultimately hit a guardrail and overturned into a ditch, the FHP said.

Seven people, including the driver, had to be taken to a hospital, the FHP said. Five people were pronounced dead on the scene.

Those who died have not been identified.
