Be a Blood Donation Hero for 9/11 National Day of Service

Participate in the 9/11 National Day of Service by donating blood.

Individuals and groups across Central Florida and the country will participate in the 9/11 National Day of Service by serving meals to those in need, organizing blood drives, cleaning up local parks and beaches, and more. This day is meant to transform the sorrow and tragedy of the 9/11 attacks into a day of giving back and community service.

In central Florida this season of the year brings hurricanes, tornados, and flooding that can strike without warning. Donating blood helps us to maintain an adequate blood supply. Imagine if your child, parent, or best friend needed a transfusion and there wasn’t enough blood on the shelves, that’s a reality our hospitals face all too often and a blood shortage is predicted again for this year. The good news? A single pint of donated blood can save up to three lives. We are famous for sunshine, beaches, and community spirit, giving blood may be the simplest way to be a hero. A comprehensive list of blood drives in central Florida can be found on OneBlood.org.

Pat Michaels, Director of Media and Public Relations at OneBlood observed: “Giving blood is one of the profound gifts a human can give. Every blood donation is maximized and can go to three different people within a few days. Donating blood is a selfless act and is vital to the health of our communities. It only takes about 45 minutes to possibly give someone another chance at life.” Be a blood donation hero.
