FLORIDA — The School Board of Broward County on Tuesday voted to suspend a school specialist after claiming she breached a Florida law by letting her transgender daughter to join a girls volleyball team in November 2023, per media reports.
Monarch High School's Jessica Norton was suspended by a 5-4 vote after spending seven years working for the local school system, NBC News reported. She currently works as the school's computer information specialist, the news outlet reported.
The school board claimed Norton violated the Fairness in Women's Sports Act, which reportedly states transgender girls cannot play female high school sports, CBS News reported.

Florida officials said in the past that the act advocates for "separate sex-specific athletic teams or sports" because it helps "promote equality of athletic opportunities, and the majority of Americans support this action."
“She knew what the law was, she made a decision not to follow the law, and that needs to have consequence to it,” school board member Debbie Hixon said during Tuesday's board meeting, per NBC News.
