FL Woman Who Left Boyfriend To Die In Suitcase Sentenced: Reports

Sarah Boone was convicted of zipping up her boyfriend in a suitcase during hide-and-seek and leaving him there to die, reports say.

ORLANDO, FL — A Winter Park woman was sentenced to life in prison Monday after being convicted of leaving her boyfriend to suffocate to death in a suitcase during a game of hide-and-seek, reports say.

A jury found Sarah Boone, 47, guilty of second-degree murder on Oct. 25 in connection with the February 2020 death of Jorge Torres, 42, both People magazine and the Associated Press reported.

Testifying on the stand, Boone claimed Torres was abusive to her, People reported.

“I forgive myself for falling in love with a monster. I tried breaking the spell ... I never stopped loving him,” Boone said, per the Associated Press report. “I didn’t mean for this to happen. Forgive me Jorge. Forgive me Torres family.”

The couple on Feb. 23 was drunkenly playing hide-and-seek, somehow leading to Torres reportedly being inside a suitcase. Boone was convicted of zipping the suitcase and ignoring his cries for help, even hitting his hand with a baseball bat when he was somehow able to stick it outside the suitcase, People reported.

She then went to sleep, thinking he would be able to escape the suitcase, People reported.

Boone was reportedly accused of partially recording the incident on a cell phone camera.

She previously declined to accept a 15-year plea deal offer amid claims she endured domestic violence, the Associated Press reported.

"Sarah has caused a lifetime of pain, a lifetime of horrible images, a lifetime of hearing my brother Jorge plead for his life," Victoria Torres, Jorge Torres' sister, said in the People report. “Such a simple thing as using a suitcase is so triggering, I try not to close it all the way.”

The jury deliberated for 90 minutes before finding Boone guilty, the Associated Press reported.
