Local Radiologist Encourages Early Screenings for Lung Cancer
Dr. Ramnath shares his personal connection to lung cancer and how community members can benefit from Lung Association's Saved by the Scan

Principal Radiologist at Neuroskelatal Imaging, Dr. Rick Ramnath recalls having the unfortunate experience of diagnosing lung cancer in too many patients over the many years of his practice. But when his own mother was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer, his family underwent the emotional devastation that all cancer families can relate to. "It's a disease that can turn a family upside down in an instant," shares Ramnath.
Looking back, Ramnath is reminded of his childhood when his mother told him every day before school to 'look with your eyes and listen with your ears.’ "I think she was reminding me to pay attention to the world around me and that I can learn a lot from others if I just try," reflects Ramnath.
Ramnath has taken his mother's words to heart and is now in the unique position as a practicing diagnostic radiologist, to learn the direct impact of various diseases, like lung cancer, on the tissues of the lungs. "With every CT scan and X-ray that I interpret, I see how this critical tool can diminish the impact of this terrible disease that takes the lives of too many people every year. I am reminded of the broad and powerful influence of the American Lung Association and its Saved By The Scan initiative, which helps to spread the word about the importance of low-dose CT scans for lung cancer screening," shares Ramnath.

As Ramnath looks forward, he shares his enthusiasm about the Lung Association’s impact on our community. "I will continue to remain vigilant and support their efforts, including their upcoming LUNG FORCE Run/Walk at SeaWorld this Saturday, May 7. This fundraising event is truly inspiring, and it gives me hope that with our continued collective efforts, we will be well on our way to eventually making lung cancer a thing of the past,” remarks Ramnath.
Registration for the Orlando LUNG FORCE Run/Walk presented by AdventHealth on May 7 is $35 for adults and $25 for children. Participants will also receive discounted tickets for SeaWorld. The organization is offering a “Walk Your Way” option for those who are not able to make the in-person event. For more information and to register, visit LUNGFORCE.org/Orlando.
