A Musical Valentine’s Day at Rollins College Dining

At Rollins College Dining, meals bring people together, and on February 14, lunch came with something extra—live violin music from one of our own team members.

Steve Saintus, a dishwasher in the main dining hall, played for students during the lunch hour. Originally from Cap-Haitien, Haiti, Steve had been playing the violin for six years. He never took formal lessons but taught himself by watching YouTube videos. Playing was a hobby for him, but his talent spoke for itself.

Wearing a red bow tie for the occasion, Steve provided a fitting backdrop to the Valentine’s Day menu. Lunch featured grilled steak with cilantro chimichurri sauce, blackened salmon, Italian chicken with a blush cream sauce, fettuccini alfredo, garlic and oregano roasted red potatoes, fresh grilled asparagus, and lemon za'atar chickpea salad. The dessert station included cheesecakes, cookies, red velvet cupcakes, and chocolate fondue.

His performance added a special touch to the day, creating a warm and festive atmosphere. Whether students stopped by for a meal or to hear Steve play, Valentine’s Day in the dining hall was one to remember.
