Here are the top stories today in Orlando:

  1. Henry Moso of Kabooki Sushi in Orlando is a 2023 Restaurant and Chef Awards nominee for the James Beard Foundation, the most prestigious award a chef can receive in the food industry. Winners of the awards will be announced on June 5 in a ceremony at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. (Orlando Patch)
  2. A principal at a charter school in Volusia County has resigned after writing a $100,000 check to an internet scammer posing as Elon Musk. Dr. Jan McGee worked at Burns Science and Technology Charter in Central Florida's Oak Hill since the school opened and fell for the scam. The staff at the school warned her it was a scam, but she still sent the money anyway. (WESH)
  3. New board members Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed to control Reedy Creek are complaining that Disney allegedly inserted a poison pill before passing power to the new board. Reedy Creek's board members signed a development agreement with the company that allowed Disney maximum developmental power over its territory for the next 30 years on Feb. 8, 2023. "All agreements signed between Disney and the District were appropriate, and were discussed and approved in open, noticed public forums in compliance with Florida’s Government in the Sunshine law," a Disney spokesperson said. (WFTV)
  4. Brevard County in Central Florida has revealed more details into why the district's interim superintendent was placed on administrative leave. "There have been several of our employees that have come forward making complaints about a hostile work environment directly at the hands of the superintendent," said one member of the district. Another board member said the interim superintendent was "berating employees" and "talked down" to workers. (Click Orlando)
  5. Orlando Burger Week is now underway, and features deals for $10 and under in the Central Florida area. The deals will run for 15 days and offer diners a chance to try a new restaurant at an affordable price. The fun runs through April 12. (Orlando Weekly)
