Woman Gives Birth Midair On Frontier Airlines Flight

A Frontier Airlines flight attendant assisted a woman in giving birth midflight on the way from Denver to Orlando, the airline said.

ORLANDO, FL — A woman gave birth midflight with the assistance of a flight attendant, according to Frontier Airlines.

On a recent flight from Denver International Airport to Orlando International Airport, the woman went into unexpected labor, and flight attendant Diana Giraldo sprung into action.

Giraldo helped the woman from her seat to the lavatory, then assisted her in giving birth to a newborn daughter, the airline said in a Facebook post.

Giraldo's actions were "exemplary" and her demeanor "calm" throughout the ordeal, pilot Chris Nye said.

Dispatchers directed the plane to Pensacola International Airport, where paramedics were ready to assist the woman, according to Nye, who transferred flying duties to the first officer as he coordinated the diversion. The plane then completed its flight to Orlando.

“The whole crew really did a great job," Nye said. "I was happy to see everyone working together to successfully deliver a newborn on an aircraft!"

The woman gave her daughter the middle name "Sky" to commemorate the unusual circumstances surrounding her birth, according to the airline.

"This baby should fly free on Frontier always," one Facebook user commented on Frontier's post.
