Labor Day 2018: What's Open and Closed Around Miami

PALMTETTO BAY, FL — You may be out of luck if you need something from a government office on Monday but your kids will be ecstatic. You can probably guess why.

Daisy Gonzalez-Diego of the Miami-Dade County Schools said that all county schools will be closed on Monday in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

Gonzalez-Diego said that region and district offices will also be closed on Monday.

"We will reopen Tuesday, Sept. 4," according to Gonzalez-Diego.

In Miami, the city's Department of Solid Waste will be conducting regularly-scheduled garbage, bulky trash and recycle pick up on Monday, Sept. 3.

"Residents whose garbage, recycle and bulky trash are always collected on Monday should place their items out as they usually do," according to city officials.

Residents are reminded to place garbage, recycle carts and bulky trash out in front of their homes on the public right of way and away from phones, cable and electric lines.

Officials stressed that residents should avoid putting such items under trees, utility poles, fire hydrants, fences, vehicles and make sure that they are at least 5 feet away from any structure.

"Miami residents can also dispose of their bulky items at the Department of Solid Waste, Mini Dump Facility which will also be open on Monday," officials added.

Here are other closings:

• Miami-Dade government offices will be closed by the county will operate a regular schedule for trash and recycling
• Coral Gables City Hall will be closed on Monday but will reopen on Tuesday, according to city officials.
• Miami Beach City Hall will be closed on Monday. Labor Day is one of 14 paid holidays for city workers in Miami Beach.
• Aventura Government Center will be closed.
• Palmetto Village Hall will be closed on Monday and the IBus circulator will not be operating. Village Parks will remain operate on a normal schedule.
• Pinecrest Village Hall will be closed on Monday but will resume normal operations on Tuesday.
• Miami City Hall will be closed on Monday and will reopen on Tuesday.
