Miami-Dade Firefighters Ask Miamians To Fill A Boot

WATCH: First responders around Miami ask Miamians to fill a boot over Labor Day weekend to help end Muscular Dystrophy and ALS.

MIAMI, FL — First responders around the Miami are asking Miamians to fill a boot over Labor Day weekend to help end Muscular Dystrophy and ALS. The Muscular Dystrophy Association Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and the Metro-Dade Firefighters International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1403 will join forces on the annual Labor Day Fill The Boot Drive. Firefighters From Miami Fire Rescue will also be raising their own boots.

"I want to encourage the community when you see your fireghters out there on duty in between calls to donate to help us fight for a cure for Muscular Dystrophy and ALS," explained Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Chief Dave Downey.

Firefighters will be collecting donations for the MDA at all major intersections this Labor Day weekend through Monday, Sept. 3. Funds collected over the weekend will go toward research and family support counseling as well as to help purchase wheelchairs and communication devices.

The money will also give children with neuromuscular diseases the chance to attend MDA summer camp.The MDA is a volunteer health agency working to defeat neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services and far-reaching professional and public health education.
