Suicidal 84-Year-Old Man Shot By Police

Four Miami-Dade police officers opened fire on an elderly man who threatened to kill himself.

MIAMI, FL — Four Miami-Dade police officers opened fire on an elderly man who was armed and threatening to kill himself on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred at 1:10 p.m. in the 138oo block of SW 270th Street. The 84-year-0ld victim was not immediately identified by police.

Detective Robin Pinkard of the Miami-Dade Police Department told Patch that police responded to a call of of a suicidal man.

"As officers arrived, they were confronted by the armed man and shots were fired," Pinkard explained.

Pinkard said that the victim was pronounced dead on the scene by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel.

None of the four officers have been identified but one of the officers was described as a 23-year veteran of the department. The other three officers have been with the department for 10 months, according to Pinkard.

Under departmental policy, all Miami-Dade police shootings are investigated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
