Gunman Opens Fire At Trump's National Doral Golf Club
The lone gunman was identified as 42-year-old Jonathan Oddi of Doral, Florida, who was shot multiple times.

DORAL, FL — Shots were fired in the lobby of the Trump National Doral Golf Club around 1:35 a.m. Friday after a man armed with a handgun walked into the resort "spewing" comments about President Trump and opened fire. Police said the man pulled a fire alarm and draped an American flag over a counter before being shot multiple times by five police officers. One officer also was injured during the incident, but the injury was not from a gunshot.
The lone gunman was identified as 42-year-old Jonathan Oddi of Doral, which is a suburb of Miami. Police were preparing to execute a search warrant on his apartment as they tried to determine if Oddi had left behind any booby-traps. The apartment complex was placed on lockdown for a time.

"What they did today was nothing short of heroic," said Miami-Dade Police Director Juan Perez in praising the response by Miami-Dade and Doral officers. "These officers did not hesitate one second to engage this individual that was actively shooting in the lobby of the hotel."
He said that the officers could be seen on body camera footage running in the direction of the gunshots. "As this individual is shooting, they are running towards the threat," Perez stressed.

Doral Police Chief Hernan M. Organvidez said that the entire incident took only minutes from start to finish. Four of the five officers who confronted the gunman were from Doral.
The FBI and Secret Service were working with Miami-Dade police to investigate the incident since it appeared to be directed toward the president, who was scheduled to be in Washington, D.C. on Friday.
"He was yelling and spewing some information about President Trump," Perez said. "We 're not saying that this is terrorism ... but we're not discounting anything at this point."
Perez said that the gunman took the flag from a flagpole in the rear of the resort but it was not clear whether he had a plan.
"We don't know what his intentions were — long-term intentions. But we know what he was trying to do at the time," said Perez. "It appears that he was trying to engage our police officers in some type of ambush-type attack, trying to lure our police officers ... into this gunfight. He did succeed and he did lose."
Eric Trump thanked police for their quick action in a tweet sent out Friday morning.
"A huge thank you to the incredible men and women of the @DoralPolice Department and @MiamiDadePD," said the president's son in his post. "Every day they keep our community safe. We are very grateful to you!"
Oddi was taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center while the Doral police officer was taken to Baptist Hospital with a broken wrist he suffered during a fall. The gunman was listed in stable condition with multiple gunshot wounds to his legs. Oddi appeared alert as he was removed from the ambulance on a stretcher.
During the confusion some hotel guests inadvertently wandered into harm's way, according to Perez.
"He did begin to shoot inside the lobby, which prompted calls and curiosity from some of the people in the lobby," Perez explained. "They were met with an individual with a handgun who pointed it at them and proceeded to fire onto the roof and the chandeliers of the hotel."
The shooting investigation is being conducted by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement since it involves the police response.
Located eight miles from Miami International Airport, the 800-acre resort has four championship golf courses, tennis courts, 643 guest rooms, 18 private cabanas and a 125-foot slide.
"Luckily no employees — or none of the individuals staying at the hotel — had any injuries of any kind," added Doral Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez.
Miami-Dade police were asking people to avoid the area of NW 87 Avenue and NW 36 Street as a result of the large law enforcement presence.
