Pedestrian Struck on Alt. U.S. 19

Amanda Chakos, 28, is in critical condition after she was struck while trying to cross Alt. U.S. 19 in Palm Harbor late Saturday. Chakos was thrown into a second pedestrian, who was also injured, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A woman attempting to walk across Alt. U.S. 19 in Palm Harbor is in critical condition after being struck late Saturday night, authorities report.

Amanda Chakos, 28, of New Middletown, OH, was just north of Alderman Road and was crossing in the the westbound direction when she walked into the path of a 2012 Honda Pilot traveling southbound around 11:53 p.m. on April 27. Chakos was not in a crosswalk, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The impact threw Chakos into another pedestrian, Lori Baker, who was also injured.

Chakos was airlifted to St. Joseph's Hospital in critical condition. Baker, 41, of Tarpon Springs was transported to Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

The driver of the vehicle, Equbal Kalani, 53, of Dunedin, was not injured. Kalani's Honda Pilot sustained $2,500 in damages, reports indicate.
