Free Admission to Honeymoon Island for Literacy Day

People must bring a library card, library book or a new or used book donation to take advantage of the deal this Sunday, Sept. 8.

Looking for a reason to finish that book you checked out from Palm Harbor library?

In honor of International Literacy Day on Sunday, Park Manager Peter Krulder recently announced that state park officials at Honeymoon Island, Caladesi Island and Egmont Key are waiving park admission for anyone who presents the following at the front gate:

  • A valid library card
  • A book checked out from the library
  • A donation of a new or used, family-friendly book
People need only present one of the above to on Sept. 8 to take advantage, Krulder said. And the offer is also good at all state parks on Sunday.

But if you're making a book donation, "none of that 'Fifty Shades of Grey'," he said to a large, chuckling audience at a Friends of the Island Parks meeting in August.
