Missing 3-Year-Old FL Boy With Austim Found Dead In Pond Near Home

A missing 3-year-old boy with autism appears to have drowned in a pond near his Palm Harbor home, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.

PALM HARBOR, FL — A missing 3-year-old boy with autism was found dead in a pond after leaving his Palm Harbor apartment on Sunday afternoon, according to a Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Deputies responded to Lancaster Court around 4:30 p.m. when the child, Kyrie Larry, was reported missing. The boy, who is non-verbal, left his family’s apartment without his parents’ knowledge.

His parents, Marcus Larry and Jasmine Torrence, were home at the time he left, but they thought he was playing with his older brother, the sheriff’s office said. Both parents are hearing impaired and didn’t hear Kyrie leave.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Flight Unit, K9 Unit, bloodhounds and Marine Unit all responded to assist with the search.

A doorbell camera on his family’s front door showed the direction that he went in after leaving, Chief Deputy David Danzig said during a news conference. Another doorbell camera at a nearby apartment showed Kyrie near a pond, about three buildings away from his home.

Members of the Dive Team found the boy’s body in the pond, which is about seven feet deep.

Kyrie appears to have drowned, though the Medical Examiner’s office will determine the cause of death, Danzig said.

“Anytime a child loses their life under circumstances like this, it’s a terrible night for everybody out here and I wish it was a better outcome,” he said.
