Palm Harbor Day Care Owner Sentenced to 15 Years For Girl's Death

A former Palm Harbor day care owner was sentenced Monday to 15 years in prison for the death of a 1-year-old girl in her care, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Stephanie Spurgeon, , was given the maximum sentence under state guidelines.
Maria Harris was dropped off at Spurgeon's Edgehill Drive home in 2008. When Harris' grandmother picked the girl up at the end of the day she noticed Maria was unresponsive, the Times reports. The family later called 911, and eight days later, she was dead.

"You took my little girl away from me," said Esther Harris, Maria's mother, according to the Times. "How could you hurt her this way?"
