Palm Harbor University High Named Among the State's Best

The school was named 28th in the state by U.S. News & World Report.

While most Tampa Bay area high schools didn’t make the national grade in U.S. News & World Report’s 2014 rankings of the top high schools in the country, one scored Top 10 standing.

Sarasota County’s Pine View School came in first in the state and sixth overall in the nation.

The annual report takes such factors into account as test scores, student to teacher ratio, college readiness, math proficiency and reading proficiency.

While Pine View as the only Tampa Bay area school in the national Top 10, local schools fared better in statewide rankings, which examined more than 680 public, charter and magnet programs across Florida.

Hillsborough County’s Robinson High came in at 26 in the state. Pinellas’ Palm Harbor University High ranked 28th while Pasco’s Land O’ Lakes earned 40th place honors.

Other Tampa Bay area schools ranking among the best in the state include:

  • Tampa Bay Tech, Tampa, 47
  • Suncoast Polytechnical, Sarasota, 50
  • Riverview High, Sarasota, 52
  • Gulf High School, New Port Richey, 65
