PALM HARBOR, FL — A truck driver transporting palm oil fell asleep on the road and crashed into a construction area on U.S. Highway 19, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

The tractor trailer crashed Monday just before 10 a.m. near the Curlew Road intersection. U.S. 19 was temporarily shut down after the crash while the road was cleared.

The driver, a 64-year-old Bristol man, was brought to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, FHP said.
