DUI Checkpoint Underway On Kendall Drive

The checkpoint will be stopping cars until to 2 am between Friday night and Saturday morning.

MIAMI, FL β€” Miami-Dade police are stopping cars on Friday night into Saturday morning at a DUI checkpoint from that runs until 2 a.m. Detective Robin Pinkard of the Miami-Dade Police Department told Patch that officers set up the checkpoint at SW 137 Avenue SW Kendall Drive (88 Street).

Unlike the rolling saturation patrols that are set up each weekend, DUI checkpoints operate in a fixed location for a set number of hours. Vehicles are pulled over based on a formula that might be as simple as selecting 15 consecutive vehicles after each 10-minute period.

"It's a big operation. It scares people and it makes people aware that we are out there, that we are paying attention," Pinkard told Patch in the past. "DUI doesn't only affect the people who are DUI. It affects families. A lot of accidents occur where families are injured and sometimes even killed."
