7-Month-Old’s Death Under Investigation
A St. Pete Beach baby was found unresponsive on New Year's Eve morning. He died that afternoon.

ST. PETE BEACH, FL — The New Year’s Eve death of a 7-month-old St. Pete Beach boy is under investigation by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the agency, Michelle Wirth, 41, called 911 around 6 a.m. Dec. 31 when she went to give her son, Mayson, a breathing treatment and found him unresponsive. Paramedics responded to Wirth’s home in the 6700 block of Gulf Winds Drive and transported Mayson to All Children’s Hospital, but he died around 1:30 p.m.
The child’s cause of death remains under investigation, but detectives say there were no obvious signs of trauma or injury.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Michelle Wirth put Mayson to bed around 10 p.m. on Friday. She woke him up around 2 a.m. Saturday to give him an Albuterol breathing treatment before putting him back in bed.
Mayson had been treated for a respiratory complaint at All Children’s on Dec. 29, the agency noted.
