The construction contractor for the long-awaited East Causeway Roadway and Drainage Improvements Project will begin work the week of Nov. 8.

TREASURE ISLAND, FL — The construction contractor for the long-awaited East Causeway Roadway and Drainage Improvements Project will begin work the week of Nov. 8.
There will be lane closures as needed to perform site preparation and to begin the installation of the new drainage infrastructure, according to a news release from the city.
The southern eastbound lane of the west Treasure Island Causeway will be closed the week of Nov. 8 for partial lane reconstruction. What this means is the outside lane of the Treasure Island Causeway heading east will be closed. This is an area just after the first bridge (Fusion Resort) to Paradise Boulevard. Drivers should plan for some minor delays. Work is expected to last a week.

The long-awaited project is proceeding following several years of discussion and delays including the city's decision in January 2019 to terminate an interlocal agreement with the city of St. Petersburg.
The project is intended to improve the drainage on that stretch of road, which collects water at high tide and during heavy rains. The corridor serves more than 20,000 vehicles per day.
The construction will continue through May.
