FDOT Approves Bike Lane on Gulf Boulevard in Madeira Beach

The project will begin in Spring 2014.

The Florida Department of Transportation has approved the creation of bike lanes along Gulf Boulevard in Madeira Beach from 131st Avenue to the Tom Stuart Causeway, according to a report from the Beach Beacon

The project is slated to begin in Spring 2014, the Beacon reported.

“The bike lanes are very important for safety,” said FDOT spokesperson Kris Carson. The current number of bicyclist injuries and fatalities in the state is very high, she said. The person getting hit most is a middle-aged man, she added.

Mayor Travis Palladeno said the long-awaited bike lane “will be a positive thing for everybody, pedestrians, drivers and cyclists.”
