From Funk To Fun Fest: Things To Do In Pinellas This Weekend

Florida Antiquarian Book Fair

The 37th annual Florida Antiquarian Book Fair returns to St. Petersburg’s Historic Coliseum, 535 4th Ave., N., this weekend.

The book fair is the third largest in the country and features more than one hundred specialized booksellers from all over the United States. This year’s theme, “The Book As Art,” celebrates the cultural influence of the written word.

Hours are:
Friday, April 20, until 9 p.m.
Saturday, April 21 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sunday, April 22, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Friday evening’s admission, which includes a live music performance, is $10; the ticket is good for the entire weekend. Saturday’s admission is $10 for the weekend or $6 for the day. Sunday’s admission is $6 for the day and includes a free appraisal by members of the Florida Bibliophile Society. Children 12 and under, and students with valid identification, are admitted for free. Parking is free.

Brainquility Festival

Brainquility is more than a music festival. It’s a collection of DJs exhibiting the best of funk, jazz and global fusion, bringing big sound and a local artist vibe to Safety Harbor’s Waterfront Park. In addition to music, there will be artists, sculptors, art vendors, food trucks. wine and craft beers.

The festival runs from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at Safety Harbor Waterfront Park, 110 Veterans Memorial Lane, Safety Harbor.

Rays Vs. Twins

The Tampa Bay Rays will take on the Minnesota Twins Saturday, April 21 at 6:10 p.m. at Tropicana Field, One Tropicana Drive, St. Petersburg.

Mainsail Art Festival

The 43rd Mainsail Art Festival will take place April 21-22 in Vinoy Park, 500 Bayshore Drive N.E., St. Petersburg.

The art festival is ranked one of the Top 20 fine arts and design shows in the country by Sunshine Artist Magazine, America's premier art show and festival guide. Over $60,000 in prize money is awarded for festival exhibiting artists.

In addition to the art, it features a culinary food court, local bands including the Betty Fox Band and T-Bone Hamilton’s Big Easy Revue, clowns jugglers and the Junior League Kids Create Tent. See the artists from the Duncan McClellan Gallery tame fire with their glassblowing demonstrations and don't miss the sidewalk chalk art created by an emerging artist, 10th-grader Dani Grazziano.

Gulfport Art & Gallery Walk

The Gulfport Art & Gallery Walk event, hosted by the nonprofit Gulfport Merchants Association, takes place from 6 to 10 p.m. every first Friday and third Saturday including this Saturday. April 21.

It features dozens of artists and craftsmen displaying unique items in downtown Gulfport, 3101 Beach Blvd. S.. Gulfport.

Dunedin Family Fun Fest

Dunedin Parks & Recreation will present the free Dunedin Family Fun Fest Friday, April 20 from 6 to 10 p.m. at Highlander Park, 903 Michigan Blvd., Dunedin. The event will include games, inflatables, music, food and a movie at dark.

Record Store Day

Saturday, April 21 is Record Store Day.

Daddy Kool at 666 Central Ave., St. Petersburg, will celebrate with a sidewalk sale, exclusive releases, limited-edition T-shirts, live music and specials around the 600 block.

Kingfish Records, 26024 U.S. 19 N., Clearwater, will give away T-shirts, records, CDs, pins, posters and autographed LPs. There also will be a food truck on site, pop-up vendors, live music and free goody bags to the first 20 people.
