The sheriff's office says that power lines are down at major intersections such as U.S. 19 and Tampa Road.

And on 54th Avenue S near Point Brittany, the bridge is closed until further notice, according to sheriff's office. A boat was slammed into it.

Duke Energy and other utility personnel are not yet out on the street, the sheriff's office says.

As of just before 7 a.m., the office says that while there was significant wind damage to trees and signs on the barrier islands, there has not been reports of major flooding.

While Irma has gone from a monster Category 4 hurricane to a Category 1, there is still a lot of potential for damage and devastation. Three are dead, and more than three million without power.

"Pinellas County is currently sealed off at the county lines and deputies are restricting access until damage and safety assessments are completed," the office said.

The barrier islands also remain closed.
