Low-Pressure Zone Tracking Toward Florida

The low-pressure system may hit the Sunshine State mid-week. Meanwhile, afternoon thunderstorms are in the forecast Monday-Friday.

Use caution if you're headed to the beach Monday. There are thunderstorms in the forecast, with the chance of cloud-to-ground lightning.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service is keeping a watchful eye on a low-pressure zone in the Gulf of Mexico that could reach Florida mid-week, bringing heavy rain, flooding, gusty winds and tornadoes.

According to the National Weather Service, the system, which is off the Yucatan Peninsula, could bring "multiple hazards to the region this week."

A hazardous weather outlook was issued Monday for the Pinellas Beaches, and extending from Sarasota to Tarpon Springs.

Thunderstorms are in the forecast for Monday and Monday night, with the chance of cloud-to-ground lightning and some minor flooding. Afternoon thunderstorms are expected to continue throughout the week.
