Missing Swimmer’s Body Found In Madeira Beach Waters: Pinellas Sheriff
The body of a missing swimmer was recovered from Madeira Beach waters Tuesday night, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.
MADEIRA BEACH, FL — The body of a missing swimmer was recovered from Madeira Beach waters Tuesday night, according to a Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office news release.
Deputies responded to reports of a missing swimmer on the beach side of 13601 Gulf Blvd. around 5:30 p.m.
They learned that Anthony Angelo, 51, and his girlfriend, 37-year-old Christen Stretch, had taken floats into the water.

While Stretch stopped where she could still touch the ocean floor, Angelo continued another 50 yards out, the sheriff’s office said. Not long after this, he began yelling for help before disappearing under the water. His girlfriend ran to shore and called 911.
The United States Coast Guard, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Treasure Island Fire Department and Madeira Beach Fire Department helped with the search.

Deputies with the PCSO Flight Unit spotted Angelo in the water not far from shore around 7 p.m., the sheriff’s office said.
They pulled his body from the water and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives say the incident doesn’t seem to be suspicious. His next of kin has been notified.
